Hey, it’s Dr. Troy here and I want to talk today about Psyllium.
A lot of people have chronic low back issues. They actually have a colon issue. People say, “Oh, I’m regular. I go to the bathroom regularly. I have bowel movements regularly.”
But the reality is, it the food is moving slower in our systems than it’s ever done, because our food has less fiber, has less nutrients, it’s more processed. We eat fried food. All these things can really gum up the bowels.
A lot of people don’t realize the elimination system starts, not only in the bowels but in the kidney, the bladder, the sinuses, the lungs and mucous membranes. So, a lot of people come see me and they have breathing problems, or lung problems, or sinus problems. I say, “We’ve got to get your elimination system moving.”
One of the great ways to do that is with a great product called Psyllium Whole Husks. We get ours at Trader Joe’s. They are very cheap. It’s an insoluble powder. It actually looks like sawdust; kind of tastes like sawdust.
I’m going to show you what we do. We take a [raises Seahawks plastic tumbler], if you are a Seahawks fan of course, we would recommend this glass. So, don’t be upset with me if you are not a Seahawks fan, [smiling], listen to what we are going to do.
We are going to take a tablespoon or so of Psyllium. I like taking two tablespoons of Psyllium. Then, in addition to that, I like to cut it with OJ, a little orange juice. We are going to mix that up. Stir it up for a little bit. Get everything to dissolve. You’ve got to make sure you are drinking enough water with this. A lot of times, people put it in 4, 6, 8 ounces of water. I would recommend even a little bit more water than this after you drink it [hold up 16 oz. tumbler]. The last thing you want is to have it plug up or gum up your system.
[Begins drinking mixture] So we drink it. I like the orange juice. It doesn’t taste very good if it doesn’t have orange juice in it. You can put other stuff in it, just a little splash of orange juice. [Finishes beverage] Go Seahawks!
What that is going to do, that fiber that is insoluble is going to expand as the water gets into it. You can actually kind of feel it expand in your mouth. It kind of puffs up like a sponge, like a dry sponge. [puffs up sound effect]
It is going to create this nice, smooth, gentle sponging effect into the elimination system. It helps you eliminate the toxins more consistently and regularly. Even though people say, “I have a bowel movement once a day.” The average, the BEST thing would be three to five bowel movements a day to get this thing moving. If this thing [elimination system] is slow, these nerves are going to be irritated. It is going to heat up the electricals here [motions down diagram of spine]. So, I have seen a lot of people with chronic low back pain who have bowel issues as well.
