It’s Dr. Troy at Zenaptic Chiropractic Health Center, here in Vancouver, Washington!
Today I want to talk about pediatric or prenatal chiropractic care or pregnancy chiropractic care.
You know, a lot of people say “Can I come to the chiropractor if I am pregnant if I am prenatal? I am taking my prenatal vitamins, I am working out, I am doing all of this stuff right, I am eating the right amount of protein so that my baby develops properly.”
As many women know, they tend to gain a little bit of baby weight because the baby is growing inside them. So, that extra weight, that extra stress throws off the biomechanics of their hips, their knees, their ankle, their spine. So, if the spinal bones, if they get out of alignment, it can cause interference to the nerves that come off in between the bones. The hole that that nerve sits in should be nice and big. That extra weight and pressure from the growing baby can literally shift the spine out of alignment, put abnormal stress and pressure on the discs, the muscles, the tendons, and more importantly, the nerves, because that what controls and regulates all the functions.
There are many techniques that you can use for prenatal, pregnancy type patients that can relieve their back pain, their tension in their neck, their headaches. Chiropractic has been very successful over the years in helping women have a great, successful pregnancy. Getting them through the prenatal stages and even on through when they deliver and after when they deliver.
Chiropractic care may be right for you through your prenatal stages. Just call our office at (360) 347-2299, we would be happy to take a look to see if we can help you. The consultation is always free.
We have a really, really cool pillow that women can lay face down on and many women in their third trimester are very appreciative that they can lay face down comfortably because a lot of times they can’t. It gives them a lot of relief to just lay down. And then the adjustments are gentle, they feel good, they don’t disturb the baby. And so we’ve seen a lot of success over the years.
Call our office, we’d be happy to schedule you a free consultation!

Any mother likely understands the pressure that going through a pregnancy puts on the back and spine. The extra added weight can put a lot of physical pressure on their muscles and joints and affect both their standing and sitting posture. But if you think that the back, neck, and shoulder pain associated with pregnancy is something that simply has to be endured, the good news is that a chiropractor can help.
Causes of Prenatal Pain
The majority of women experience back pain starting in the second half of their pregnancy. This can be due to a number of reasons, and is not necessarily a sign of a significant problem. The most common pain point is at the sacroiliac joint, which is where the pelvis meets your spine. Physically, this type of pain is likely caused by pressure that your growing baby is placing on your body, leading to posture change and muscle separation.
It’s not just the added weight alone that is the problem. As the baby and the uterus increase in size, this growth places pressure on the surrounding nerves and blood pressure. This can lead to pain, numbness, and discomfort, and might, in the most severe cases, cause permanent damage. If you suspect the pain you are experiencing is more severe than normal, you should definitely consult with a medical professional.
Prenatal Pain Analysis And Treatment
There are a number of treatment options available for women experiencing excessive back pain due to pregnancy. Many patients will find their symptoms relieved through a combination of massage, stretching, and exercise. A chiropractic examination will look to do more than just reduce the pain, but will look to find the cause and make specific recommendations based on what is found.
Another factor in prenatal pain is the flood of hormones and added stress that women go through during this time. Both might lead to additional physical stress on the body that can result in stiffness, soreness, and bad posture. The nervous system is a complicated machine and pregnancy can affect it in many different ways. A chiropractor will treat your symptoms differently depending on whether it is a physical, hormonal, or emotional cause.
Prenatal Issues and Chiropractic Care
When treating a pregnant woman with a chiropractic adjustment, the same basic approach will be used, while being careful not to put any undue pressure on the abdomen. The potential benefits include reducing back, neck, shoulder, or joint pain, lowering the patient’s nausea, lowering the likelihood of a cesarean delivery, and even reducing the length of delivery. The overall goal with chiropractic prenatal care is to allow the mother’s body to function naturally and support a healthy birth.
